About me

I am an experienced senior manager in the private and voluntary sectors.

After a successful career in fundraising and voluntary sector management I founded Hostroute.com Ltd in August 2000 with an initial investment of £200. The company's brands grew to become one of the most recognised web hosting companies in the UK with separate brands operating in the US and Canada.

In 2007 the company was sold to Ultraspeed UK Ltd (now part of the Six Degrees Group) and I was appointed as group Marketing Director. In September 2009 I left the company to return to the voluntary sector. I worked for the Eric Liddell Centre for 14 months where I combined work in fundraising, marketing, social media and web development. This resulted in  a considerable improvement in their financial performance.

In December 2011 I combined my voluntary sector experience and my private sector management skills with my appointment as manager of Eco-Congregation Scotland.  This was initially a one year appointment funded by the Scottish Government overseeing the organisations move from a voluntary body  to a registered charity and expanding its work. I have now secured a further three years of government funding with an 30% increase to allow us to develop the organisation further.

I am one of very few professional fundraisers who has done everything from emptying static collecting boxes and organising flag days to soliciting big gifts from wealthy individuals & foundations and managing staff fundraising teams.

I am also one of the few people to have run a truly profitable mass market web hosting and domain name registration business.

Voluntary organisations I have held staff positions with
Eco-Congregation Scotland (Manager - current appointment)
Waverley Care Trust (Fundraising Manager)
Scottish Conservation Projects Trust - now BTCV (Fundraising and Marketing Director)
Vetaid (Fundraising and Marketing Manager)
Fairbridge in Scotland (Fundraising Research Assistant then Regional Development Manager)
The Moredun Foundation (Fundraising and Marketing Manager)
RNIB (Regional Fundraiser)
Eric Liddell Centre (Fundraiser)

My qualifications
I have a degree in Theology from Edinburgh University (LTh).
I also hold an HND in Communication studies, comprising Marketing, Public Relations and Advertising.
